You and yours are invited to the annual GMB Yule Social!

The Yule Social this year will take place on Thursday, December 10th at 4:00 in the English Department Lounge.

This event traditionally works as a potluck where fellow medievalists will try their hand at a medieval recipe (or their own favorite dish), share, and socialize!
Please let us know if you can attend.  This event has been a great way for colleagues to get together, share stories of the semester, catch up with old friends, and make new ones!  If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

CFP: Reading the Middle Ages

GMB invites submissions of abstracts for twenty-minute papers to be presented at the UC Berkeley, national graduate student conference, "Reading the Middle Ages" (25-27 March 2011). Abstracts due 12 November 2010.

Please also save the date for Rita Copeland's Keynote Address on Saturday, 26 March 2011.

A dose of medieval . . .

‘Talis,’ inquiens, ‘mihi uidetur, rex, uita hominum praesens in terris, ad conparationem eius, quod nobis incertum est, temporis, quale cum te residente ad caenam cum ducibus ac ministris tuis tempore brumali, accenso quidem foco in medio, et calido effecto caenaculo, furentibus autem foris per omnia turbinibus hiemalium pluuiarum uel niuium, adueniens unus passeium domum citissime peruolauerit; qui cum per unum ostium ingrediens, mox per aliud exierit.
